Reading the report without bias

A passing validation is not a licence to get excited. This lesson is how to read Sharpe, drawdown, and trade count the way a sceptical desk would.

In this lesson

  1. The number you want to look at first is the one that can kill you
  2. Sharpe, in plain terms
  3. Drawdown, in plain terms
  4. How many trades before you believe it
  5. When to kill an edge
Practice

Re-read the last validation report

Open the edge you validated. Ignore the headline number. Check trade count, max drawdown, and whether the held-out window looks like the tuning window.
